You may have felt the echoes of weight stigma in some shape or form in your life. As a woman, preparing to enter into the reproductive phase of your life brings with it another layer of stigma. 

In honour of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome Awareness month, we’ve sat down (virtually, of course) with one of our past models, Brigitte. First diagnosed with PCOS in 2017, Brig has since transformed her health and had a beautiful baby (with another on the way), something doctors told her wouldn’t be possible.

You’ve seen it on your paperwork when you leave the doctors office, the numbers and the words that state “normal, overweight, obese” and you’ve cringed seeing these words. These words are so powerful and when referring to the BMI number on your chart – are also such bullsh*t.

BMI is short for Body Mass Index (BMI), and you have probably seen it when visiting your doctor for a checkup since it is most often used as a marker of health status (more on how ludicrous this is later). You might have used this number to register for insurance as well. If you’ve ever seen the BMI chart, heard these terms and wondered what the hell is actually up with these numbers, here’s the scoop: 

Every mother and baby is different and each set of girls (aka boobs) you use to feed your baby is different. For the fuller busted mama, finding comfortable breastfeeding positions takes some patience, creativity and experimentation to find what works.

When you have a fuller bust, what matters most is that you work to find a position that works for you and feels comfortable. When you work alongside a lactation consultant (IBCLC) they can assist you by demonstrating different positions. Here’s some suggestions to start with:
